Safeguarding

At Reeth and Gunnerside Schools the health and safety of all children is of paramount importance. We are committed to promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined by the Department for Education as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care, and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Safeguarding relates to all aspects of school life and involves a collective set of measures to ensure every child is kept safe. Health and safety, child protection, safer recruitment, attendance, behaviour management, anti bullying and e-safety all contribute to a create a robust set of policies and procedures that maximise pupil safety at all times.
